A Foundation for Lifelong Learning
With an excellent student-to-teacher ratio, we ensure a gentle and effective transition for our tamariki from early childhood education. We actively support them in becoming engaged, active, and confident learners from day one by encouraging a strong sense of curiosity and passion.
Our junior classroom is not just well-resourced; it embodies innovative practices within a nurturing environment. This means we can cater to the diverse needs of all tamariki as they embark on their journey to read, write, and truly embrace a lifelong love of learning.
The stability of a three-year multi-level classroom provides an exceptional foundation for growth. This consistent setting not only boosts student confidence but also deeply cultivates leadership skills. A natural dynamic is created where our older tamariki step up as tuakana, guiding and supporting their younger teina, and solidifying a collaborative and nurturing learning environment.
The Heart of the Middle School Journey
As students transition into Years 4, 5, and 6, they step beyond their junior years into an exciting phase of growth and increasing independence. This is a pivotal time where the learning environment begins to foster a deeper sense of personal responsibility and a drive to achieve more.
Our excellent student-to-teacher ratio is key to this journey, ensuring that every child receives tailored support while also being thoughtfully challenged to extend their capabilities. We nurture their burgeoning independence, guiding them as they navigate more complex tasks and develop their own learning strategies.
In these middle years, we significantly expand on digital tools and citizenship, equipping students with the skills to navigate the digital world responsibly and effectively. We passionately foster more independent and in-depth inquiry, empowering students to ask bigger questions, research with greater autonomy, and make meaningful connections across their learning. It's a time of rich discovery, where students truly begin to take ownership of their educational path.
The Intermediate Years at St Anthony’s - Preparing Confident, Future-Ready Learners
At St Anthony’s, our intermediate programme offers a co-educational environment where students form lifelong friendships and grow into confident, independent learners. Within our safe and supportive kura, tamariki are encouraged to build resilience, embrace challenges, and develop the skills they’ll need in an ever-changing world.
Guided by a team of experienced kaiako with diverse talents, our learners engage in a balanced journey of EQ (Emotional Quotient), IQ (Intelligence Quotient), and DQ (Digital Quotient) development. We empower our ākonga to understand their strengths, manage their challenges, and take ownership of their learning.
Far more than just reading, writing, and arithmetic, our programme fosters curiosity, collaboration, and future-focused thinking. Innovative learning spaces create exciting opportunities for students to explore their passions and chart their learning pathways with confidence.
At St Anthony’s, we prepare students for college—and beyond—with aroha, high expectations, and a strong sense of community.
We believe that learning outside the classroom is fundamental to developing well-rounded senior students. Our seniors attend technology classes at Mount Cook School every week, participating in Music, Food Technology, Digital Technology, and Textiles Technology. We also regularly access resources within the CBD, such as Te Papa, the Wellington City Library, the Art Gallery, and the National War Memorial, to enhance units of work. Many workplaces and facilities are included in our EOTC outings to ensure our students' understanding of the wider world is extended.
Our students experience a week-long school camp on a bi-yearly basis at Teapot Valley Camp in Brighton, Nelson. Team building, as well as sports like archery, skiing, orienteering, a confidence course, abseiling, and indoor climbing, are only some of the activities students will partake in.
